About
I write songs that occur to me. Some say they're acoustic singer-songwriter type songs. The folk purists say it's "pop". The rockers call it "country". I tend to think of my songs as "Folk Pop" - a term I heard from Nanci Griffith that seemed applicable. Subjects range from the ole standby "Love" to poor public bathroom behaviors; addictions ("Coffee" & "Cigarettes" and story type songs. It appears lyric and melody trump "the beat" in my musical world. tho' rhythm often insists on participating and I don't have a problem with that. Ain't nothing wrong with a "groove". Some songs find me on a soap-box speaking my mind on political and/or social issues. Why? Prob'ly because things often appear so screwed up. Some have compared my delivery to Johnny Cash which is complimentary and I'll take it tho I don't get it. Other's have said I remind them of Steve Forbert. I like it when folks say I "have my own style" which sorta makes sense when you think about it. I think I've got this specific "Mike Strasser" style n sound down pretty dern'd good.
