Josh Hanna is studying radio and television at California University of Pennsylvania. He runs a radio show dedicated to local music. Hes also an all around great dude with a passion for Pittsburgh and music in general and a great supporter of the scene.

What kind of music do you remember your parents listening to while you were growing up?

Well I actually lived with my grandparents for most of my life so I heard a lot of country through them. I do like some country don’t get me wrong but I expanded to what I listened to from my friends. Country artist though such as Tim McGraw,  Jason Aldean, and Kenny Rogers.

What was your first concert?

My first concert actually was a Hope on a Rope show in 2006; I forget exactly where it was though. I remembered they played with a Ska band called Public Access and they were sick. Overall a pretty awesome show!

My first national show was Panic at the Disco that same year at the Chevy amphitheatre. Another awesome show with a good line up including The Hush Sound, Dresden Dolls, and one other band I can’t remember off the top of my head.

What do you like to listen to while you are working?

Right now while I am working I have a variety going on. I have been listening to The Story So Far, The Early November, New Found Glory, Memphis May Fire, B.O.B., Maesion, and Shirts Vs Skins. Definitely a odd combination of things but I enjoy it all haha.

Where is your favorite place to see live music?

My favorite place to see live music would have to be The Altar Bar. Altar being a new love for me mostly because a lot of acts I want to see end up playing there and also the sound there always sounds good. The volume from the band, and their instruments, kind of makes or breaks a show, at least for me. Some places I feel you can’t hear at least a member or two due to volume and I feel Altar Bar has got it down though.

What (if any) is your favorite place to buy music (records, cd’s, tapes, 8-tracks) in Pittsburgh?

My favorite place to buy music would have to be The Exchange. I grew up not far at all from one and I used to walk there and buy Blink-182 cd’s along with anything I may have want. It has a good wide selection and I always enjoy the atmosphere of it.

Who are some of your favorite local bands/artists?

This is a tough question because I enjoy a ton of local bands. Some of my favorites right now are:

Maesion

Voices and Vessels

I, Creator

Liotta

Shirts Vs. Skins

Paper States

Do you have any essential jukebox songs/bands on a night out?

Usually a night out is me driving a ton in my car so like the CD’s in my car are my bands. So right now in my car are The Wonder Years, Hands Like Houses, Pierce The Veil, and Memphis May Fire.

Do you do karaoke? If so, do you have any standard songs in your repertoire?

No I do not do karaoke. If I did though I would do random songs that nobody would expect like I’ll go do a taylor swift song or something.

What is the next concert you’ll attend?

The next concert I will be attending will be my own show with my band Golden Gate on Nov. 3rd at the Collier V.F.W.  in Uniontown Pa.  Besides that I can’t think off the top of my head of any others.

What band/artist have you seen the most times?

Oddly I was just talking about this the other night. It would have to be Of Mice & Men; collectively I have seen them about 9 times. Then it would be The Devil Wears Prada; all together I have seen them about 8 times.

Who comes after The Beatles on your Ipod?

This is a very random one but The Beastie Boys. Always enjoyable to hear a good Beastie Boys song.
